Is Being Fat Normal?

A recent study has found conclusively that Americans believe that being fat is normal. In 1994, the average American woman wanted to weigh approximately 132 lbs and in actuality the average woman weighed 147. By 2004, the average American woman desired to about 135 lbs and in actuality weighted 153 lbs. Though this shift may not seem dramatic however when coupled with additional data first referenced by the Florida State University, we in American have some serious problems. The data found by the Florida State University displayed that 87% of Americans, including 48% of obese Americans, see their weight as socially acceptable. Therefore, the meaning is clear: For Americans, being fat is becoming progressively more acceptable and less offensive. Why is this the case and is it permissible?

Commentary

Being fat is not normal, except in very few and rare cases. The majority of fat people are fat because of a the sedentary lifestyle they live. Most were not fat all their lives, but through years of laziness, bad eating habits and a lack of physical activity became fat.

This is not ok! We cannot make being fat acceptable in America as it is unhealthy and a poor reflection on our culture as a whole. Simple exercise one hour a day, five days a week will drastically reduce the population of fat people in America. However this takes commitment, drive, and persistence. The main problem is, most Americans lack these three attributes.

You Don't Have to Eat It All. Save Some for Tomorrow.

During the time of the increase in the overall weight of Americans, portion sizes have increased, physical exercise has decreased, and the average time in front of the TV has increased. This is the problem and this is not acceptable. Get your fat asses up off the couch and into the gym, cut down your portion sizes and turn off your television.

We cannot continue to move this way as a society or we will continue to get fatter leading to serious health issues and an even greater apathetic and lazy society.
