Choosing the Healthy Option

"The First Wealth is Health" - Ralph Waldo Emerson

It is extremely important to take care of ones body and maintain a healthy and balanced regimen in life. We as a society have become complacent and lazy and thus have seen our rates of overweight and obese individuals sky rocket. Simply choosing the healthy option would make a significant difference in the lives of many. I personally spend 1 hour a day 5-6 days a week engaged in an intense workout, however this regimen is not necessary to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Choosing the Healthy Option is a way to live your life that can be instituted in the way we eat, the way we travel and the way we spend our leisure time. We as Americans have a love of fast food and though most fast food is "bad" for you, there are healthy options. Choosing the healthy option means choosing a 6 inch Subway Sandwich over The Big Mac or the Chicken Sandwhich over the Big Mac. Additionally, choosing small fies over the extra large fries and Diet Coke and light lemonade over regular Coke. These changes may not seem significant, however Choosing the Healthy Option will add up over time. This technique works for all restaurants as they will have a healthy option on the menu.

Choosing the Healthy Option also applies to travel. Take the stairs daily when you arrive at your office and when you go shopping park further away from the store than you are used to. This will force you to walk and burn some needed calories. Additionally, on your lunch break spend 15 minutes walking to the restaurant 30 minutes eating the healthy choice and 15 minutes walking back. Again you will be surprised at the effect of this activity should you do it 4-5 days a week each week.

Choosing the Healthy Option in our leisure time means picking activities that involve aerobic activity and making the time to go to the gym and dedicate an hour three days per week to improving your body. Combined, Choosing the Healthy Option will improve your overall look, feel, stress levels and appearance which will increase your self confidence and overall general health.
