Fantasy Football Guide -Tips, Tricks, and Strategies

Fantasy football is an enormously poplular event. It is estimated that some 16 million adults play Fantasy Football making it a $3 billion dollar plus industry. Many leagues offer cash prizes to the champions, in fact Todd Ullman and Richard Berger won the 2006 World Championship of Fantasy Football and earned a $200,000 pay day making the duo the most successful Fantasy Football players in the world. It is necessary to take fantasy football seriously if you intend on winning. Following are the ultimate Fantasy Football tips, tricks and strategies.

Game Plan and Strategy

1. NFL Shows.

In preparation, spend time watching the NFL shows on TV a few times a week. Watch Espn, CBS, Fox, check Yahoo, Google and any other news feed or show. Check for injuries and all fantasy related news. Make physical notes and perform internet research which should take you about 1 hour per day.

2. Create a Wish List and Participate in a Mock Draft

Create an entire list of all the players that you plan on selecting and multiple back ups of each. Check all the players on your wish list for injuries. Wasting a first round pick on a running back who tore his ACL that morning could end you season before it begins. Plus, your fellow managers will not inform you but will laugh at you after. Try several mock drafts as the results can be fairly accurate.

3. Be Weary of Trades.

If you have a high draft spot, rivals will offer seemingly enticing deals often. It often breaks down to one attractive prospect attached to a couple of duds. Don’t fall for this trap.

4. Be Weary of The Bye Weak.

Don’t draft too many players with the same bye week, or you will wind up with a zero chance of winning when that week arrives. Plan ahead and spread your picks among the teams.

5. Scoring.

What’s more important in your league – touchdowns or total yardage? Interceptions or sacks? Figure out the scoring distribution your leaguer uses, and draft accordingly.

6. Mid-Season Updates

Your team won’t charge up the rankings without some hands on action. Now that you have a full roster, update your lineup regularly to keep from being blitzed int eh season.

7. Stay very Active

Respect the time your fellow competitors invest in the league. Keep an eye out for trade offers, sign a couple of free agents, and never miss a chance to talk a little smack when your opponents need it.

8. Drinking During the Draft.

For at least one of your friends, draft day will be an excuse to break out the keg. Don’t let the alcohol obscure your vision and lead to lapses in judgment or mistakes during any of the rounds.

Steal of 2007 Draft

- Wide Receiver Ronald Curry and running back Lamont Jordan of the Oakland Raiders. Curry’ had injury problems but when healthy he’s an effective guy and could be the steal of the draft. Jordan was a disappointment last season, but should return to form this season.

Cornerstones of 2007

Every team needs an anchor, a player you can count on to put up big numbers every week. Sometimes the obvious choice is the bet one. These are the five men voted most likely to succeed. Pick them as early as you can.

Quarterback

Peyton Manning
Indianapolis
The league’s premier passer remains one of Fantasy Football’s safest bets, thanks to his high completion and TD rates.

Drew Brees
New Orleans
In his first season he threw for almost 4,500 years.

Running Backs

Ladainian Tomlinson
San Diego
The superstar set a single season record last year with 31 touchdown. He probably won’t slow down.

Larry Johnson

Kansas City
Second only to Tomlinson in rushing yards, this 27 year old is still well in his prime

Wide Receivers

Marvin Harrison
Indianapolis
Peyton Manning directs most of his passers here. That frequency will help your fantasy team score.

Randy Moss
New England
Now paired with Tom Brady, the NFL’s weapon is ready for a huge year.

Tight Ends

Antonio Gates
Sand Diego
Scored 9 touchdowns in 2006 and will do very well again this year.

Tony Gonzalez
Kansas City
A consistent pro bowler, Gonzalez posted more than 900 years receiving in each of the last three seasons with the Chiefs.

Kickers

Robbie Gould
Chicago
The Bears kicker scored a legage high 89 percent of fields goals last season

Nate Kaeding
San Diego
The Charger’s main lege kicked seven field goals from more than 40 yards and missed just three all year.

Defense

Baltimore
Led by SuperBowl MVP Ray Lewis, the Ravens Defense last season gave up a stingy 264 points per game.

Jacksonville
These hard-hitting defenders in 2006 allowed just 17 points per game and forced 21 turnovers. Impressive feats.

Good luck!
