The American Presidency is the most honored and revered political office in the world. Great Generals, Attorneys and even Actors have had the honor of being referred as the Chief Executive of the United States of America. The following list contains the best United States Presidents of all time. My determination and analysis was objective as I thoroughly reviewed each President’s historical influence and actions while in office.

1. Abraham Lincoln

"I am a firm believer in the people. If given the truth, they can be depended upon to meet any national crisis. The great point is to bring them the real facts." - Lincoln

Abraham Lincoln, was elected as the 16th President and nearly single handedly saved the Union during the American Civil War. Lincoln's leadership during the Civil War was one of stern direction and no compromise however at the same time Lincoln clearly understood that he would have the task of Uniting the States once the North won the war. Lincoln's actions and vision kept the union together and eventually led to the abolition of slavery in the United States.

2. Franklin Delano Roosevelt

"The only thing we have to fear is fear itself." - FDR

FDR was elected as the 32nd President and is the only President to serve four terms as President. Throughout his four terms in office, FDR had an enormous impact on America. Roosevelt worked tirelessly to end the Great Depression, including the creation and establishment of the New Deal implemented to assist America's return to international prominence.

3. George Washington

"The nation which indulges towards another a habitual hatred, or an habitual fondness, is in some degree a slave. It is a slave to its animosity or to its affection, either of which is sufficient to lead it astray from its duty and its interest." - Washington

Washington served as our first President and because of such set forth many important precedents and actions that were later followed by his predecessors. His insistence on not to become a "monarch" was pivotal for American politics. This two term precedent was only eclipsed when FDR served four terms. The 22nd amendment has made certain that no Presiednet will ever serve more than two terms.

4. Thomas Jefferson

"I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just; that his justice cannot sleep forever. . . the Almighty has no attribute that can take side with us in such a contest." - Jefferson

Thomas Jefferson, was elected as the third President of America and his decision to execute the Louisiana Purchase, nearly doubled the United States size overnight. Jefferson was known to be a strong state's rights activist who realized the need for consolidating power in the federal government when necessary.

5. Theodore Roosevelt

"No Man is justified in doing evil on the grounds of expedience." - Roosevelt"

Teddy made an enormous impact on America being known as the "Trust Buster" when he vigilantly conquered corrupt businesses. An avid outdoorsman, Teddy was deeply committed to conservation of American wildlife. Teddy established numerous national parks for preservation purposes and halted the rapid expansion of industrialization of his time.

6. Andrew Jackson

"It is to be regretted that the rich and powerful too often bend the acts of government to their selfish purposes." - Jackson

Jackson's election showcased the rise of the common man to the office of the president. Jackson was a man of humble beginnings and with his rise he became the epitome of the American dream. His fame and popularity was enormous. Jackson's actions as a strong nationalist are evidenced by his controversial decisions to move the Native Americans during the Trail of Tears east of the Mississippi and his strong fight against the national bank.

7. Woodrow Wilson

"The history of liberty is a history of the limitations of governmental power, not the increase of it." - Wilson

Wilson was at the helm of control when America was brought into the national stage. Wilson's decision to enter World War I and away from isolationism were seen by many as violating Washington's tenant of avoiding foreign entanglements. However this was unlike any war that Washington had experienced and Wilson's hope of bringing the US into the League of Nations, later the United Nations was realized.

8. Harry S. Truman

"When even one American - who has done nothing wrong -- is forced by fear to shut his mind and close his mouth, then all of Americans are in peril." - Truman

Truman, was elected as the 33rd President and Truman entered into office during one of the most difficult times in American history. Truman made the decision to drop the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Truman then organized the end of World War II and established firm precedents for the beginning of the Cold War.

9. James K. Polk

"No president who performs his duties faithfully and conscientiously can have any leisure." - Polk

With the exception of Jefferson, no other President has increased the size of the United States more than Polk. Polk arranged for the acquisition of New Mexico and California through the Mexican American War. Polk also claimed Oregon Territory after a new treaty with England. Polk stands for and embodies the U.S. notion of manifest destiny. Polk was also an extremely effective leader during the Mexican American War. Many historians consistently refer to him as the best one term president.

10. Dwight Eisenhower

"Every gun that is made, every warship that is launched, every rocket fired signifies in the final sense a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and not clothed" - Eisenhower

Eisenhower's time in office was full of American prosperity and great economic gain. Eisenhower also provided key leadership used during the Cold War.

Honorable Mention / Personal Favorites

John F. Kennedy

"And so, my fellow Americans, ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country." - Kennedy

Bill Clinton

"I did not have sexual relations with that woman." - Clinton

Who do you believe are the Best President's of All Time? Did I miss any?

No no J.F.Kennedy was the only number one president of U.S.A of all the time

top ten

i would add john hanson sence he was the first president of the united states

Pretty good

I personally would replace James K. Polk (he was good but he wasn't top ten, almost everything he did headed the country towards war) with LBJ, one of my personal favorites, mostly because of his victories in the field of Civil Rights. Plus Vietnam wasn't really his fault, i blame his Generals like William Westmoreland more than him.

Why isn't Reagan up here?

Why isn't Reagan up here? Wasn't there a law that every state had to have a building named after Reagan? I have no political views but I'm just surprised he's not up here.

Calvin Coolidge should be up

Calvin Coolidge should be up there.

presidents

Lincoln was a real Republican.....Just like the Democrats of the 60s
were more like Republicans.Parties have changed there platform over the years.FDR...Wether people like it or not brought
social security , brought the middle class in the Fifties and fought
for medicare. Lincoln to me will always be the most profound.
Although President Johnson signed the civil rights bill, he will
never be in the top 10 because of the lies he told about the Bay of
Tonkin and the lost of thousand of soldiers .President W Bush will always be in the bottom five.Bush and Clinton destroyed
the overlooking of Wall Street and Bush lost thousands in Iraq
on a lie. Clinton has some redeeming value as a so so ex President but I don't see Bush doing this...I hope I'm wrong. President Clinton won the first aerial [ no soldiers on the ground]war in Serbia/Yugoslavia and brought the people to justice without any lost of Americans. Never done before

President George W. Bush

Thousands in Iraq on a lie? What lie? I'm pretty sure that bush announced a global war on terrorism because terrorists crashed commercial air planes into the world trade center. Or is that a lie? is 3000 people dieing and 6000 people getting injured a lie. What is a lie is Al-Qaeda thinking that they need to randomly kill innocent Americans, and what is stupid is that you and they think that they should or could get away with it.

Wrong

They invaded Afghanistan because of 9/11. Iraq was the one we invaded because Bush said they had weapons of mass destruction, and they clearly did not. However, it is possible that Bush and Cheney did believe that they had weapons of mass destruction, although if they fabricated it would not suprise me.

The 9/11 attacks were by a

The 9/11 attacks were by a Al-Quaeda. The Iraq war is a completely different issue. Please at least Google these things so you don't sound quite as ignorant.

Some peculiar choices...

I agree with your list for everyone above #2 on the list. After that I see a president that created welfare, at least three avowed, proven racists, another who spent more time at Augusta than in the White House and finally, the creator of the United Nations. An organization so corrupt and inept that you would be hard pressed to find another to compare. But other than that...good list.

Presidents

Abraham Lincoln is one of those choices that is hard to argue with (although I agree a GREAT President). I personally think Theodore Roosevelt is more like 3 or 4. As for FDR not even in the top 10! Time will put a completely different perspective on George H.W. Bush. 30 years from now he will without a doubt be remembered as one of the greats. Reagan in my opinion is two only because of what Lincoln dealt with, he is a close 2nd though! Grant was also an excellent President I would say 5 or 6!!

Absolutly agree George H. W.

Absolutly agree George H. W. Bush will be one of the greats. However behind Abraham Lincoln, FDR and LBJ. How can the man who champions civil rights not make the list? Too many give the credit to JFK becasue he began the movement, unfortantly it was inherited by LBJ who sucsesfully saw it through. Another great, the only President able to truly work with and unite both parties-- Ronald Reagan, amazing life! Sad we have had so many greats in the past work to build us to be the best we can be, and our present goverment and President have turned out the way they have. Sad and scarey,

I have to completely agree.

I have to completely agree. LBJ does not get the credit he deserves on the civil rights issue. As a History Major student, it wasn't until college that I learned all that he had done. Thats really sad since this time period has such an impact on American history. And Reagan was an unbelieveable president-should be the top 5!

Some particular Choices....

BRAVO!!!!!!!!!

Corrupt President and Family

The Bush family is one of the reasons today that al-Qaeda exists. Along time ago the Bush family funded the Bin Laden family and were great friends. One of the best CIA tactician's we ever had is now one of the United States biggest enemies. The Bush family even supplied him with weapons. There is no possible way that the any person of the Bush family should get an award for anything besides useless spending of money, leading us into a recession, and funding the enemy with almost everything he has today! I highly encourage that Cheney and George W. Bush should be put on trial for war crimes and sent to prison and or executed. They were almost the absolutely worst presidential administration i have ever seen. They used fear as a tactic to win their elections. Ronald Reagan's administration also funded what is now the Taliban and put thousands of people out on the streets. I cannot stress enough how terrible those people were there is not a fact good enough about any of them to replace the damage done to the many people and to our country. In no way shape or form should they have ever been elected president of the USA.

Check the facts

It was in the Carter administration that funding for the Mujahideen began. Under the direct supervision of Zbigniew Kazimierz Brzezinski. He stayed in power through various post during Reagen and Bush 1. The Afghanistan policies by the US have been largely shaped by him, and his hatred for the Soviets.

I suppose it would have been

I suppose it would have been better to have let the USSR take control of the middle east and its oil fields so they could fuel the Soviet war machine.

PS....execute Bush for war crimes? By far the most idiotic comment....ever.period. And besides what war crimes? Are you talking about Guantanamo Bay and water boarding? Those ragheads deserved it.

Re-Corrupt President and Family

What a load of crap! You should be ashamed of yourself writing such lies and false accusations against not only 1 great president but two. Go back, research, gather actual evidence, not rantings and hear say by the michael moore mindsets. The first thing you should research is that although Bin Laden is a murderous psycho, this is not the case for his immediate and extended family who have, and continue, to want nothing to do with him (reason he's living in caves like a rat and not in his family mansions).
"I am a firm believer in the people. If given the truth, they can be depended upon to meet any national crisis. The great point is to bring them the real facts." - Lincoln

Who knew this would be more important today than it was back then, media, internet, politicians should all follow Lincoln's words.

How did FDR start the great

How did FDR start the great depression. He took office in March, 1933. The great depression began in 1930.

FDR, the greatest of the great...

Did you ever hear of the "Great Depression of 1922"? There was in fact a sharp recession that year, but there was also no "Smoot-Hawley" tariff, or National Recovery Administration and things of the sort of government meddling that can help turn a recession into the one of the notorius periods in American history. "Silent Cal" had more faith in the American entrepreneur and the American worker than to undermine them with meddlesome regulations. FDR's presidency lasted more than two three terms, but the Great Depression outlasted his time in office. If you really think of FDR as the saviour during the that time, take a look at the unemployment rates before and after he took office. You are indeed correct in affirming that it started with a downturn in the economy before FDR became President. Hoover may have been the catalyst, but FDR was not effective in the recovery.

That is about the dumbest

That is about the dumbest thing I ever read,

I don't think we've seen the best President Yet

Look from Jimmy Carter to Ronald Reagan , George Bush , Bill Clinton , and George W . Bush , We've have good Presidents and Bad Presidents. I don't believe we've had the Best President yet. I can say financially for me personally only. Bill Clinton created the best economic backdrop for American jobs. The Only thing I disagree with is probably NAFTA which was probably the one thing that had shipped jobs overseas. If you had been in Dallas, Texas during the 80s you would have noticed all of the homeless people that was covering that streets of Dallas,Texas. This was in part one of the main things I can remember about Ronald "the Great" Reagan. Now with George Bush the fist you had minor job creation, He and his administration were occupied with war and didn't do much for middle class and job creation. Bill Clinton came in and the economy boomed. My telephone never stopped ringing for job offers. George W Bush came in after Clinton and 9/11 happened and Jobs were few and far between.. Me personally economically would have to give credit to Bill Clinton for creating an economy of Jobs, Jobs and more jobs.
I have nothing to say to much about George W Bush I don't believe he deserve credit for anything except being a jerk who ruined our reputation around the world. From my understanding from friends who travel internationally They couldn't stand George W Bush and our country's reputation paid for that.
Bill Clinton was the best so far. If The Republicans in Congress can do anything I'll be impressed. Tax cuts don't create jobs job creation creates jobs.

Bill Clinton

I agree! Bill Clinton was a great president! I don't give a wit about his personal life. When he was in office, everybody was working, buying, taking vacations...how long as that been?

Good list

Good list. I agree with all of them. Clinton honorable mention though? He as a horrible president. Disgraced the nation. Almost got impeached. And not to mention the current depression cant be laid directly at his and his administrations feet. Their policies especially with the house balloon payments are what caused the current unemployment problem.

Clinton WAS impeached.

Clinton WAS impeached.

so was Nixon that dirty old

so was Nixon that dirty old lying bastard

Nixon's Presidency

I agree that Richard Nixon may not have been truthfully 'forthcoming' during the Watergate scandal (1972-73), thus ---
his 'whitehouse' advisors and cronies were very unjust during this time. The Watergate Hotel 'break-in' should never have happened. I'm sure he would have been re-elected w/o this unlawful mess, based on the fact that he did have a great Secretary of State ( H. Kissinger ) and opened relations with China and USSR during his first term. I suppose his legacy will be known for this, aside from his resignation on Aug 9, 1974.

Nixons' 2nd term

My mistake: Nixon was re-elected in 1972. I'm sure he would have finished his second term, honorably, had it NOT been for the Dem headquarter's break-in @ The Watergate Hotel, Florida.

so was Nixon?

The only Presidents ever to have been impeached were Andrew Johnson (1867) and Bill Clinton (1998).

Kennedy///Honorable Mention???

Kennedy is by far the most over-rated president. He and his brother almost took us to the brink of Nuclear War because of the Bay of Pigs where at the last moment Kennedy decided to pull the airplanes and left the ground forces at the mercy of the Castro regime.

His father bought him the presidency with the Unions and the Mafia in Chicago. Then his little brother when after the Mafia.

He used the White House as his private Bordello.

He used Frank Sinatra and his friend, when at the beginning of running for president he needed help with Hollywood, then when he became president he shuned him. Thank God for Dean Martin he was the only one that din't fall for it. From the beginning he told Frank Sinatra that he was being used.

Talking about back stabbing, they have perfected it.

The Kennedy's are the most political corrupt family of all the presidents.

I can go on and on!!!

The Bay of Pigs Invasion was

The Bay of Pigs Invasion was a CIA plot that was hatched during the Eisenhower administration. Kennedy took the fall for it and more importantly, learned from it. He later handled the Cuban Missile Crisis brilliantly because of what he learned from the Bay of Pigs, he kept us out of a nuclear exchange with the USSR. I seriously doubt Nixon would have handled it as well as Kennedy did, if he had been in charge we probably wouldn't be here today.

Kennedy had his flaws but mostly they were personal, and didn't affect the Country, unlike Nixon's lies and the Bush family's arrogance and sense of entitlement.

The Bushs are the most corrupt political family in American history. Period.

you actually know what your

you actually know what your talking about the only way super conservatives know anything is from watching fox news 24 hours a day those idiots

You are an idiot, read a

You are an idiot, read a history book please. The only reason that Kennedy was dealing with nuclear war was because "Ike" set him up for it. The Bay of Pigs took place only two weeks after Kennedy took office and he barely knew about it. You just sound like an un-educated jack ass

In all seriousness if you

In all seriousness if you were not there and witnessed these things all you are doing is reading propaganda online and spitting back out like a fool. To be perfectly honest JFK did what he had to to keep America safe. He was not over-rated and is not over-rated at all. As you can see in this list he is not numbered. Another thing learn to use the English language what are you like 14 years old?
Your almost as bad as those stupid assholes who say JFK was only about vagina and getting laid. Your an idiot and spew lies that you found on the internet and believe to be true. JFK is easily one of the best presidents the U.S. has ever seen. He did not make the White House into a brothel that is another falsification. And if i had to guess it was the Mafia who had him killed in Dallas. He never did anything you said in that whole comment of BS you insisted. He never shunned Sinatra he was caught up with ahh oh yeah running the United States.. Something na illiterate person like yourself will never have the honor of doing.

Thetruth123: "Another thing

Thetruth123: "Another thing learn to use the English language what are you like 14 years old?"

You should really take some of your own advice. I counted 15 grammatical errors in your post, and I was just quick-checking. The funniest one is your incorrect usage of "your" twice, in the two sentences that follow the one in which you berate another poster for their poor grasp on the English language. And then, you called them illiterate in the end. I almost pissed myself.

YES!

YES!

Crazy much?

You are fucking insaine! Kennedy saved us from World War III by standing firmly aginst the Russians. He changed how the political game was played, the first Cathlic president, the first important Irish president, he created the peace corps., he saved a guys life in WWII by swiming for four hours with the guys life jacket in his teeth to reach a small island! His fame is justified. And he was assassinated in a huge conspiricey crime that changed thee country's future, and showed him no respect! Would you rather have had Nixon elected and have made Vietnam a 20 year war? plus Kennedy was pro equal rights for blacks, are you?

The Kennedys' are the most politicly reponsible family in the whole history!

I could go on and on!!!

You bringing race into the

You bringing race into the issue just crumbles your argument. Don't ask someone if they were for equal rights, stupid question.

Robert E. Lee did not own

Robert E. Lee did not own slaves, he just inherited them from his father and refused to let them go as planned when his father died.

Best presidents: Why does a

Best presidents: Why does a list have to have 10 listings? I would take Eisenhower off the list -- the greatest thing he did was to warn Americans about the perils of the "military industrial complex" yet he did nothing about it. The US was the only standing industrial power after WWII so of course the US economy would be doing great. Polk? Oh brother, picking a fight with a weak country for a land grab is admirable? At least Jefferson paid for Louisiana. Truman dropping the bomb is a great act? The US could have placed an embargo on Japan and got the same results. Might have taken a bit longer but at least the US would not have gone down in history as vaporizing innocent human beings. Not sure why MSNBC would post a blogger's blog which do a degree authenticates poor historical research.

An embargo,,,,really!!

You think we would all be free to speak our minds here today if we hadn't won the war. And do you think an embargo matters during a time of war, and when nobody is trading anything? We droped the bombs on Japan because we knew they and their soldiers would fight untill the end. We saved the lives of our soldiers and theirs by avoiding a long bloody battle. Yes we are the only country that has used the bomb. But it couldn't have had a better result. You are aware that this was not a war over pride or money? It was for survival. Who would you rather have developed and used it first??? I'll bet a lot of Jewish families wish we had developed it sooner!!! The bomb caused the war to end. We faught evil and won!!! It was a great act!!! Maybe if the Axis had won your family would have been put in a death camp?? This is what we prevented. An embargo,,,,Really??Ha!! Do you think our enemies would not trade with them if we put am embargo on them??? Ha!!! That is totally Hilarious.

Lincoln he was never a "good guy"

I love how you people are so ignorant about Lincoln to quote Lincoln "if I could save the Union without freeing any slave I would do it". Do you jokes of people actually think the Civil War was over slavery if so how come Robert Lee the best military leader on both sides by far and in charge of the Confederates never kept slaves. How come Jesse James a Confederate Guerilla who would later carry out brillantly planned crimes on Union banks freed his slaves long before the war was won by the Union. Oh by the way the Confederates were the far better soldiers in the civil war they had much less people yet completely had the upper hand in cavalry battles.

Jesse James was a paranoid

Jesse James was a paranoid sociopath with a grudge (and they werent his slaves)
slavery was still a part of the problems even if it is a misconception that the war was solely over it

Reagan was the greatest president ever!!!

The great man Reagan created thousands of jobs and restored the nation back to greatness. He knew that the rich were the generators of wealth in the country and his supply side method had fantastic success.

He also saved the world from communism and won the cold war. The huge deficit that we now suffer is because of liberal socialists excessive spending and the culture of dependency that they have created.

Reagan the great man that he was knew that welfare was bad for the poor and that unions were crushing America's vitality. He solved that problem.

I wish he was around today and president, he would save us form that terrible socialist obama who was born in A MUSLIM COUNTRY!

Plus Reagan was god fearing American, pure and decent unlike those liberal atheists.

I agree. Happy 100th

I agree. Happy 100th birthday President Reagan! We thank you for your service to this country!

Regan

I agree that Regan was the best president ever, considering I just passed the history of the cold war.

Regan

I agree that regan was the best president ever, consdering I just passed hthe history of the cold war.

and you're a fucked up

and you're a fucked up racist who obviously listens to the obnoxious Rush Limbaugh.

Regan

Who are you calling an idiot? Yourself????? Regan was one of th best presidents we have ever had. Infact, Obama is THE WORST PRESIDENT WE HAVE EVER!!!!!!!!!!! YOU GOT PROBLEM WITH THAT?????!!!
