Top Ten (10) United States President's of All Time.

The American Presidency is the most honored and revered political office in the world. Great Generals, Attorneys and even Actors have had the honor of being referred as the Chief Executive of the United States of America. The following list contains the best United States Presidents of all time. My determination and analysis was objective as I thoroughly reviewed each President’s historical influence and actions while in office.

1. Abraham Lincoln

"I am a firm believer in the people. If given the truth, they can be depended upon to meet any national crisis. The great point is to bring them the real facts." - Lincoln

Abraham Lincoln, was elected as the 16th President and nearly single handedly saved the Union during the American Civil War. Lincoln's leadership during the Civil War was one of stern direction and no compromise however at the same time Lincoln clearly understood that he would have the task of Uniting the States once the North won the war. Lincoln's actions and vision kept the union together and eventually led to the abolition of slavery in the United States.

2. Franklin Delano Roosevelt

"The only thing we have to fear is fear itself." - FDR

FDR was elected as the 32nd President and is the only President to serve four terms as President. Throughout his four terms in office, FDR had an enormous impact on America. Roosevelt worked tirelessly to end the Great Depression, including the creation and establishment of the New Deal implemented to assist America's return to international prominence.

3. George Washington

"The nation which indulges towards another a habitual hatred, or an habitual fondness, is in some degree a slave. It is a slave to its animosity or to its affection, either of which is sufficient to lead it astray from its duty and its interest." - Washington

Washington served as our first President and because of such set forth many important precedents and actions that were later followed by his predecessors. His insistence on not to become a "monarch" was pivotal for American politics. This two term precedent was only eclipsed when FDR served four terms. The 22nd amendment has made certain that no Presiednet will ever serve more than two terms.

4. Thomas Jefferson

"I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just; that his justice cannot sleep forever. . . the Almighty has no attribute that can take side with us in such a contest." - Jefferson

Thomas Jefferson, was elected as the third President of America and his decision to execute the Louisiana Purchase, nearly doubled the United States size overnight. Jefferson was known to be a strong state's rights activist who realized the need for consolidating power in the federal government when necessary.

5. Theodore Roosevelt

"No Man is justified in doing evil on the grounds of expedience." - Roosevelt"

Teddy made an enormous impact on America being known as the "Trust Buster" when he vigilantly conquered corrupt businesses. An avid outdoorsman, Teddy was deeply committed to conservation of American wildlife. Teddy established numerous national parks for preservation purposes and halted the rapid expansion of industrialization of his time.

6. Andrew Jackson

"It is to be regretted that the rich and powerful too often bend the acts of government to their selfish purposes." - Jackson

Jackson's election showcased the rise of the common man to the office of the president. Jackson was a man of humble beginnings and with his rise he became the epitome of the American dream. His fame and popularity was enormous. Jackson's actions as a strong nationalist are evidenced by his controversial decisions to move the Native Americans during the Trail of Tears east of the Mississippi and his strong fight against the national bank.

7. Woodrow Wilson

"The history of liberty is a history of the limitations of governmental power, not the increase of it." - Wilson

Wilson was at the helm of control when America was brought into the national stage. Wilson's decision to enter World War I and away from isolationism were seen by many as violating Washington's tenant of avoiding foreign entanglements. However this was unlike any war that Washington had experienced and Wilson's hope of bringing the US into the League of Nations, later the United Nations was realized.

8. Harry S. Truman

"When even one American - who has done nothing wrong -- is forced by fear to shut his mind and close his mouth, then all of Americans are in peril." - Truman

Truman, was elected as the 33rd President and Truman entered into office during one of the most difficult times in American history. Truman made the decision to drop the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Truman then organized the end of World War II and established firm precedents for the beginning of the Cold War.

9. James K. Polk

"No president who performs his duties faithfully and conscientiously can have any leisure." - Polk

With the exception of Jefferson, no other President has increased the size of the United States more than Polk. Polk arranged for the acquisition of New Mexico and California through the Mexican American War. Polk also claimed Oregon Territory after a new treaty with England. Polk stands for and embodies the U.S. notion of manifest destiny. Polk was also an extremely effective leader during the Mexican American War. Many historians consistently refer to him as the best one term president.

10. Dwight Eisenhower

"Every gun that is made, every warship that is launched, every rocket fired signifies in the final sense a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and not clothed" - Eisenhower

Eisenhower's time in office was full of American prosperity and great economic gain. Eisenhower also provided key leadership used during the Cold War.

Honorable Mention / Personal Favorites

John F. Kennedy

"And so, my fellow Americans, ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country." - Kennedy

Bill Clinton

"I did not have sexual relations with that woman." - Clinton

Who do you believe are the Best President's of All Time? Did I miss any?

My Top 5: Abraham Lincoln-

My Top 5:

Abraham Lincoln- Because he reunited the states during the Civil War as one Union. Gettysburg Address was a key speech in American History. He was a moral man, and took the first step in Af. Am rights with the Emancipation Proclamation. All around good guy, and exceptional leader.

George Washington- He was our found father. Very humble and was a great general. He played a huge role in the shaping and role of the Presidency.

Franklin D. Roosevelt- He lifted our nation out of the depression with his new deal. He came in with 3 goals: reform, recover, and relief. He handle WWII with grace and honor. I put his speech to congress asking for a declaration of war as one of the most powerful speeches ever made in American history. Its too bad he didn't get to finish off his term.

Harry Truman- Save so many lives with his historic decision to drop the atomic bombs. He basically ended WWII with that decision. He was also a moral man, he saw that lynching Af. Am was wrong. He was pissed off that Black Vets, were even being lynched. Aside from intervening in the Korean War, I thought he was an exceptional President.

Theodore Roosevelt- He attacked big business, was a conservationist and a progressive President. He did great things as President, I for one am grateful for his meat packaging/ inspection laws.

Worst Presidents-
1. George W. Bush- 2 Wars with 2 different countries on false pretenses. Screwed our economy, gas goes up ta $5 in C.A., spent billions of dollars in unnecessary wars.
2. Herbert Hoover- Jackass let the Depression hit us because he went back on all the Progressive movements.
3. Andrew Jackson- Trail of Tears!!! How the hell is his face on the 20 dollar bill?!
4. James Buchanan and Franklin Pierce go hand in hand- Open the door for the Civil War by not doing anything to break the succession.
5. Ulysses S. Grant- corrupt administraition

Good list, but Reagan does

Good list, but Reagan does not belong anywhere on this list. He did not end the Cold War and he corrupted Republicans with that idiotic neo-con tax cut trickle down ideology. As far as I'm concerned, he should be in the Worst Presidents list.

Agreed, Daniel.

Lionoln!...He was the worst

Lionoln!...He was the worst president we've ever had. He commanded Sherman to kill 50, 000 innocent women, children, and elderly civilians in the south. He censored newspapers and arrested their editors for speaking against the administration. He also arrested lawyers who tried to defend them. So he broke the first amendment and the habeas corpus amendment. He also single handed lit the spark that started the centralization of American government. Wilson (who also removed free speech during his term), FDR (who caused and didn't solve the great depression), Carter, Bush Sr. and Jr. (yes, Bush Jr.), and Obama all follow his example. He is without a doubt the WORST president ever...he didn't even want to free the slaves. He didn't care about them. Here's a quote about slavery from him, "My paramount object in this struggle is to save the Union, and is not either to save or to destroy slavery. If I could save the Union without freeing any slave I would do it, and if I could save it by freeing all the slaves I would do it; and if I could save it by freeing some and leaving others alone I would also do that." He laid the groundwork for our current economic crisis (him and Alexander Hamilton)

your an idiot

The extent of your knowledge of US history is lacking and it definitely shows. Lincoln knew what he had to do to win the war and he did not hold back. Of course he did infringed upon our fundamental rights, if he hadn't he wouldn't have won. The greatest presidents in history follow the trend of acting in contrast to status quo. Also there isn't a habeas corpus amendment. And your claim that he didn't care about slavery is irrelevant; the assumption that that means he is a racist is a misconception. Most people in the 1800's didn't believe in anything resembling racial equality. In fact Lincoln's indifference was considered moderate. Abolition in the 1860's is equivalent to radical islamist in modern days.

Woodrow Wilson was key to ending world war one and establishing the league of nations (future UN). By limiting free speech you mean the espionage and sedition acts, which only established the fact that freedom of speech can't be allowed to the extent that it is directly harmful.

FDR was elected because of the depression, which he helped turn around from day one of his 1st term. He created millions of jobs and created crucial infrastructure.

I hope you enjoyed having your shit rocked.

You should replace "your"

You should replace "your" with I'm!

I am a 12th grade student in a history class. All of this information is being opinionated and biased. Please use facts when you post information on this site, or atleast be able to back it up. You dont have to curse and swear in order to get a point across. If you are right and you know it, than just state your opinion and keep it moving.

Im not to sure on the presidents with the greatest accomplishments, but I do know the presidents that appear most intellectual.

McCAiN-very disrespectful, blinks entirely too much when debating, rude, disrespectful

BiLL CliNTON-made a few mistakes

GEORGE WASHiNGTON-backbone of our country

SARAH PALiN-DiTZY! dispite that she has a good head on her shoulder

LiNCOLN-democrat with a republican vice president

OBAMA-first black president! newly into office so no accoplishments yet but debate well & respectful

*Face palm* Your post is

*Face palm* Your post is the dumbest one I've seen yet. Even the people I don't agree with at least make a good debate. Your post on the other hand is just idiotic. You talk about presidents then you go on to mention McCain, Palin, Al Gore. Those weren't presidents, why even mention them on a top 10 presidents blog. Every comment you made was totally opinionated as you accused everyone on this site of doing. Also you got Lincoln wrong, he was a Republican with a Democrat/National Union vice president. Stay in school.

clinton was a way better

clinton was a way better president than reagan - clinton got rid of the nat'l debt unlike reagan. and btw i give polk credit for getting stuff done but he bold-faced lied to Americans to get his war... i wouldn't put him in the top ten.

Reagan

Ended the cold war, took down the berlin wall made us the most powerful nation on earth brought the economy back from double diget inflation, interest rates and unemployement

Regan did not end the cold

Regan did not end the cold war... he was a nice guy, but I would give that credit to the USSR and their terrible economy. They were at the end of their rope. And, he did not make us the most powerful nation on Earth either... unless you consider us not in the lead prior to 1980.

Reaganomics failed

Reaganomics failed

The Reagan economy was a one-hit wonder. Yes, there was a boom in the mid-1980s, as the economy recovered from a severe recession. But while the rich got much richer, there was little sustained economic improvement for most Americans. By the late 1980s, middle-class incomes were barely higher than they had been a decade before — and the poverty rate had actually risen.

When the inevitable recession arrived, people felt betrayed — a sense of betrayal that Mr. Clinton was able to ride into the White House.

Your comment - "More people

Your comment - "More people were working in 1984, 85, and 86 then at any other point of our nations' history" - couldn't be more wrong. While Reagan was president the unemployment rate got as high as 10%. The lowest it ever was during his presidency was above 5% and that wasn't during '84-'85 or '86. . Their was many years in our countries history that we had much higher employment. Don't throw out facts when you don't do any research on it.

The German people took down

The German people took down the Berlin wall. And it all started through a peaceful revolution and demonstration of the German people. Very arrogant to take credit for them risking their lives. Also, Reagan wasn't even president when the Berlin wall was taken down. Secondly, he took us from being the worlds biggest creditor nation to the worlds biggest debtor nation.

reagan didn't have to deal

reagan didn't have to deal with any major crises. the ussr was already in decline

WHY ARE YOU PUTTING FDR AT THE TOP?

FDR DISMANTLED THE CONSTITUTION WITH THE NEW DEAL. HE IS THE FATHER OF LIBERAL SOCIALISM.

IF YOU NEED CLARIFICATION ABOUT THIS READ THE 10TH AMENDMENT!

Clinton

Bill Clinton is top 12, and there is no doubt about it. Conservatives WILL disagree but the truth is that Clinton was amazing, and maybe the most "down to earth" president of the 20th century. A great man overall, 9.5/10 on "the" scale.

You just wrote on this page fella.

Carter was the worst

Hey, if you serious about rating presidents look at their performance while in the office, contrys prosperity, interest rates, personal income and international accomplishments. Not the hate in your heart.
Using these criterias, the worst president in modern times was by far Jimmy Carter for obvious reasons. Everyone remembers 70's. Not far behind is FDR. Don't be fooled by liberal media and liberal historians who rank him higher. He prolonged depression for several more years. He started bankrupt social security. He started dependency on government. He also sold Eastern Europe to Stalin.
Carter should rest easy. Dubious honor eventually will go to Obama. When he's done and out we will be Third World Country.
The best was Ronald Reagan. Peace and Prosperity. Nuff said.

Reagan the best? Straightup

Reagan the best? Straightup B.S. Interest rates were nearly 12 percent, Pelicans knocked the B-1 out of the sky. Terrorist attacked Marine barracks and we won the big war...Grenada. Psst give me a break

Bush was the worst president

Bush was the worst president we have ever had
that will be a hard record to break and if people
think he helped the U.S.A in any way than they are
just as worthless as he was.

hahahahahaha oh im sorry did

hahahahahaha

oh im sorry did he keep america safe

gee uh yeah
the only attack we had was 9/11 under his term which wasn't his fault

it was the clinton administration, check your facts

clinton cut all security so nobody was paying attention to foreign affairs

also with monica lewinski and that whole scandal

that opened a door for terrorists

im not a republican, democrat, liberal, conservative
i hate politicans as much as i hate osama
there all lying crooks

now before you go on insulting george bush

which i do give to u he got us into a huge pickle economy, foregin affairs

how about do fact checking.

Why was 9/11 not Bushes

Why was 9/11 not Bushes fault?
He was lazy and would not talk to Richard Clark, did you forget?

Haven't you heard of zeitgeist? (sp)

You all should take a look at it! It's 2 hours of information that I felt was very informative to the way I think of our American Government! Bush2 was the absolute worst President this country has had in ages! The so called "terrorists" was just a way to show the American people that we are pawns in a corrupt government! After what we went through when Bush1 was President, our defense against any of the "terrorist" officials was on high alert! So it was easy for that administration to plot and plan against their own country. Bush2 was fueled by money! And I don't care what anyone says, it IS the root of all evil! He was the worst president for our economy. You think I'm wrong, take a walk through small town USA.

Clinton was by far the worst

Clinton was by far the worst president and then you can rank them by being liberal as the worst going on back. Of course O'bama will beat out Clinton as he is not qualified to manage a fast food joint.

Goodness, that's a bloody

Goodness, that's a bloody hoot, lemme tell you. All liberals have ruined this country?

Liberals abolished slavery, gave women the right to vote, signed the civil rights act, helped uphold the first amendment's "Freedom of Speech", and several other things. They're also the ones who care about minority children passing in school, getting health care to all Americans, as well as saving the environment (my passion).

Sure, Republicans have done their fair share of good things, I will not deny it, but do NOT say that liberals have done nothing good.

Also, if you want to say that, "NO! A republican abolished slavery", today's democrat is then's republican.

As for Obama, my friend, at least he's trying. He has his feet on the ground and realizes it's not all candy land and flowers. He hasn't had the time to prove you wrong. He's your president too, numb nuts, so you might as well support him. The longer you sit around like a stubborn ass, the less he'll get done. :) It's your future, your children's future, so on and so on. Might as well make the best of it.

Bill Clinton was a sack of shit, but hey, at least he strengthened our economy.

God bless, and pull your head out of your ass. Liberals love this country too.

You're an idiot

You're an idiot

Reagan, Bush Sr., Bush Jr.

Reagan, Bush Sr., Bush Jr. would have put your fast food place into debt and out of business.

You have been mislead and

You have been mislead and need to be corrected. These presidents accomplished things that other presidents were incapable of doing. Many young pupils are misguided, do not always follow the media. I suggest you take a politics class in high school or in college. As I was a professor of politics and economics at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (M.I.T.) and served in congress. After retirement I was a partner at a local Edward Jones. Overall you do have your opinion but these men have helped the world in many ways.

I have a feeling that when

I have a feeling that when anyone has a different opinion as this guy they are labeled by him as being misled or misinformed. Probably makes friends often by arrogantly saying he needs to "enlighten" them.

What did you serve congress,

What did you serve congress, coffee?

Yes I served in congress

I served in the 20th District Senate in California from 2006-2007. Before that I had studied engineering at M.I.T. with a minor in politics. Summers before that I taught summer workshops in politics and economics at my alma mater. With my relatives operating within Edward Jones, I decided to pursue a partnership along with them.

What the HELL do you know

What the HELL do you know you inbred brain dead FUCK? Appearently, neither of them put your mother out of the prostitution business, so ZIP IT.

"Appearently", you can't

"Appearently", you can't spell. Dumb redneck.

Politics

Obviously you are a dumb cunt because Bush jr. did far more than you think, this was possibly the most difficult and challenging question for all the presidents in the history of America put together to face. Would you rather him to sit back and let it "slide" right by us. Hmmmm, Clinton apparently didn't do enough when the TALIBAN attacked the World Trade Center the first time (1992). We were attacked by the same people and the war in Afghanistan is our own weaponry against us. Wait! Didn't Clinton aide those weapons to Afghanistan. YES! he sold United States Weapons to Afghanistan at a very low price and in term have then been sold on the black market. Time and time again with our battle in the middle east, foreign casualties are found using our weapons. If George H.W. Bush didn't go investigate IRAQ, we would be in even more turmoil. They (Iraqis) were accused of having these weapons; the UN gave consent and approval for going into Iraq. As for why we haven't left yet, you can NOT leave an unstable country or al hell will break lose!!! This war is very comparable to the Vietnam War and the Korean War. We still have troops in these areas because you can not leave unstable countries alone, even though they happened (1950's to 1975). We will have troops in these areas for as long as needed as is in IRAQ. Also, I DO BELIEVE that troops have the decision of joining the services so if thats the problem.... the draft hasn't been reinstated. "NUFF" said history repeats itself, Bush was not a bad president.

P.S. this whole thread is retarded! How can you judge 44 men when they went through different hardships and crisis at different periods of time?

RE: when the first WTC attack in 1992

Clinton was not president then. Clinton did not take office until January of 1993.

Bush1 was President and the reason he didn't do enough was because the Bush's are behind the whole thing! Working WITH the Taliban. MONEY MONEY MONEY

Think about it....
