The American Presidency is the most honored and revered political office in the world. Great Generals, Attorneys and even Actors have had the honor of being referred as the Chief Executive of the United States of America. The following list contains the best United States Presidents of all time. My determination and analysis was objective as I thoroughly reviewed each President’s historical influence and actions while in office.

1. Abraham Lincoln

"I am a firm believer in the people. If given the truth, they can be depended upon to meet any national crisis. The great point is to bring them the real facts." - Lincoln

Abraham Lincoln, was elected as the 16th President and nearly single handedly saved the Union during the American Civil War. Lincoln's leadership during the Civil War was one of stern direction and no compromise however at the same time Lincoln clearly understood that he would have the task of Uniting the States once the North won the war. Lincoln's actions and vision kept the union together and eventually led to the abolition of slavery in the United States.

2. Franklin Delano Roosevelt

"The only thing we have to fear is fear itself." - FDR

FDR was elected as the 32nd President and is the only President to serve four terms as President. Throughout his four terms in office, FDR had an enormous impact on America. Roosevelt worked tirelessly to end the Great Depression, including the creation and establishment of the New Deal implemented to assist America's return to international prominence.

3. George Washington

"The nation which indulges towards another a habitual hatred, or an habitual fondness, is in some degree a slave. It is a slave to its animosity or to its affection, either of which is sufficient to lead it astray from its duty and its interest." - Washington

Washington served as our first President and because of such set forth many important precedents and actions that were later followed by his predecessors. His insistence on not to become a "monarch" was pivotal for American politics. This two term precedent was only eclipsed when FDR served four terms. The 22nd amendment has made certain that no Presiednet will ever serve more than two terms.

4. Thomas Jefferson

"I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just; that his justice cannot sleep forever. . . the Almighty has no attribute that can take side with us in such a contest." - Jefferson

Thomas Jefferson, was elected as the third President of America and his decision to execute the Louisiana Purchase, nearly doubled the United States size overnight. Jefferson was known to be a strong state's rights activist who realized the need for consolidating power in the federal government when necessary.

5. Theodore Roosevelt

"No Man is justified in doing evil on the grounds of expedience." - Roosevelt"

Teddy made an enormous impact on America being known as the "Trust Buster" when he vigilantly conquered corrupt businesses. An avid outdoorsman, Teddy was deeply committed to conservation of American wildlife. Teddy established numerous national parks for preservation purposes and halted the rapid expansion of industrialization of his time.

6. Andrew Jackson

"It is to be regretted that the rich and powerful too often bend the acts of government to their selfish purposes." - Jackson

Jackson's election showcased the rise of the common man to the office of the president. Jackson was a man of humble beginnings and with his rise he became the epitome of the American dream. His fame and popularity was enormous. Jackson's actions as a strong nationalist are evidenced by his controversial decisions to move the Native Americans during the Trail of Tears east of the Mississippi and his strong fight against the national bank.

7. Woodrow Wilson

"The history of liberty is a history of the limitations of governmental power, not the increase of it." - Wilson

Wilson was at the helm of control when America was brought into the national stage. Wilson's decision to enter World War I and away from isolationism were seen by many as violating Washington's tenant of avoiding foreign entanglements. However this was unlike any war that Washington had experienced and Wilson's hope of bringing the US into the League of Nations, later the United Nations was realized.

8. Harry S. Truman

"When even one American - who has done nothing wrong -- is forced by fear to shut his mind and close his mouth, then all of Americans are in peril." - Truman

Truman, was elected as the 33rd President and Truman entered into office during one of the most difficult times in American history. Truman made the decision to drop the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Truman then organized the end of World War II and established firm precedents for the beginning of the Cold War.

9. James K. Polk

"No president who performs his duties faithfully and conscientiously can have any leisure." - Polk

With the exception of Jefferson, no other President has increased the size of the United States more than Polk. Polk arranged for the acquisition of New Mexico and California through the Mexican American War. Polk also claimed Oregon Territory after a new treaty with England. Polk stands for and embodies the U.S. notion of manifest destiny. Polk was also an extremely effective leader during the Mexican American War. Many historians consistently refer to him as the best one term president.

10. Dwight Eisenhower

"Every gun that is made, every warship that is launched, every rocket fired signifies in the final sense a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and not clothed" - Eisenhower

Eisenhower's time in office was full of American prosperity and great economic gain. Eisenhower also provided key leadership used during the Cold War.

Honorable Mention / Personal Favorites

John F. Kennedy

"And so, my fellow Americans, ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country." - Kennedy

Bill Clinton

"I did not have sexual relations with that woman." - Clinton

Who do you believe are the Best President's of All Time? Did I miss any?

Why don't you start

Why don't you start enlightening us then, O' Sage of the Age.

-_-

This whole thread is based on opinion....no one will ever be right so stop arguing.....and half these people need to learn to spell...

Think god you dont have geroge bush!

He cause 9-11 geroge bush needs a life! That trouble maker!

Incorrect!! Clinton could

Incorrect!! Clinton could have prevented 9/11 if the COWARD would have acted on the information that he HAD IN HAND about Bin Laden's location, but, instead he chose to do NOTHING!!! He KNEW where Bin Laden was after the 1993 bombing on the World Trade Center. And let's not forget the USS Cole in the port of Yemen, and how about all the Millitary bases he closed. You drips that want to make this all Former President Bush's fault are TRULEY the blindfolded and uninformed ones. You all need to get your facts straight!!

I think you are wrong. Bush

I think you are wrong. Bush was an awesome president, as he helped us get through 9/11 and the iraq war. How dare you say 9/11 was his fault!!!! Thats just retarded. And guess what? now that he is leaving office, things are going down the tubes. So yes, Bush desreves to be in the top five, and now that he is leaving everything is going to fall apart.

you actually belive Bush was a good president? ( Yeah Right)

Yes i agree the media made him worse than he was HOWEVER he is on of the worst Presidents list for me , but no its not his falt about 9-11 still i will blame him on the economy and the war. Therefore he is a horrible President. so dont even think of putting him on the top 5 or 10 or even 30. Obama all the way

It's cute that you base your

It's cute that you base your entire judgement of Bush based on one event. No one defends Clinton's foreign policy, but lets not forget that Bush had 8 months prevent 9/11. Which he did not. Don't say that Bush did great things after 9/11; if he had we would not still be in Afganistan. Instead, we are lacking troops there and are spending a lot of time and money in Iraq (also the Bush administration decision).

Guess what? the taliban

Guess what?

the taliban started the war, not us. Bush never started it. The taliban did.

And, bush did help us get through 9/11.

wanna know how I know?

As you probably DONT know, the twin towers were our world trade center. They provided only about, say, 75% OF ALL OUR ECONOMY.

So when they went down, ou would think we would go into a recession.

But, do you have an xbox? playstation? computer (obviously you d0). But most of all, do you have a home? what about food? water?

Obviously, you still have all this stuff even though our world trade center was down. Wanna know why the economy is affecting us 7 YEARS after 9/11?

Bush.

Because of Bush.

Bush helped us get through 9/11, and I dont think anyone could have done a better job.

Maybe you should check your facts before you argue, stupid.

george W. Bush

Are you kidding me? did you not see what George did to us as a nation? He didn't help us through 9/11 any more the Guilliani did. they both just plastered there faces all over the tv and shot off there mouths. Now that Bush is out of office we may actually be able to breath again. We may actually be able to put away the duct tape and fears of more attacks. We are not the enemy as Bush made us. We are God fearing americans who just want peace and texans with there six shooters gone. We want to talk negotiate and remain free. May Bush rot in hell for his hatred he spread. He risked our lives. And defended his actions by saying the intellegence was wrong. Come on.. Get your facts right before you risk our freedom. George w. bush was the worst president the electorial college and politics ever put in our highest office. We sure didn't put him there. And oh yes his brother was (by coinsidence) the florida governor who allowed those hanging chads to be rejected. Open you eyes people. We didn't ask for Bush he was crammed down our throats. And now he is just sitting back enjoying all the tax payers money..
How sad

amazing. You think Bush

amazing.

You think Bush supported a conspiracy and all that?

Have you ever thought that him being a bad president was a COVERUP?

What if he was good, but other "people" didnt feel the need to let him do his thing.

Are you happy now that I put it in your terms, retards?

oh, and by the way, Bush didnt start the Iraq war. We, as AMERICANS started it, since we are the golbal cops trying to put an end to communism and spread democracy.

Retards.

Hmmm, I don't remember

Hmmm, I don't remember wanting to go to war with Iraq or signing up to be a global cop. So I guess I'm the only one of those, "AMERICANS" as you put it, who didn't start the war. Did you just wake up from a long slumber? What are you talking about putting a end to communism? Hope you don't think Iraq or Afghanistan are communist or that's the reason we went in there. From your post you seem to be the only retard in here.

wow, yes we do want to stop

wow, yes we do want to stop communism in the world.

Why do you think we fought in Vietnam in the first place?

or how about world war 1 and 2?

You are a traitor to America.

WWI wasn't fought against

WWI wasn't fought against Communism. The Germans were not Communist. Nor did we fight against Russia when they had their Communist Revolution and dropped out of the war against Germany in 1917

WWII - Once again Germany wasn't communist. They were run by the fascist Nazis. We were actually allied with communist Russia to defeat Germany.

Learn your history. You have no clue what your talking about.

Anyway....
Yes, Vietnam was fought to stop the spread of Communism but that was was over 30 years ago.
WWII was over 60 years ago.
WWI was over 90 years ago.

Start living in the 21st century. We've been fighting against terrorist followers of Extremist Islam for awhile now (not Communists), get with the program.

Are you kidding me? When

Are you kidding me? When Bush leaves office things are going to fall apart? Can they possibly get any worse than this? I mean, come on, we were basically talking in terms of rationing when he was in office. When have you heard our economy talk about rationing since the great depression? He DID NOT help us through the Iraq war, he STARTED the Iraq war. It's basically the Vietnam War all over again, and how did that end? Thousands of American soldiers dead over threats. And while Bush may be acknowledged for one thing (a lousy stimulus check), he couldn't even do that right. If we had half a brain he would have realized that people don't spend during hard times, they SAVE. Saving does not stimulate the economy. It can't get worse than when he was in office.

give the obama a break !

give the obama a break !
where the hell was bush in the past 4 years ? playing golf while our troops are getting kill because of his stupid lies about weapond of mass destruction ! he the number 1 reason y our economy is in a bad shape. !

*News flash* Bush didn't

*News flash* Bush didn't help us "get through" the Iraq war. He started the Iraq war over false intelligence, and I wouldn't say it's exactly over when we have well over 100,000 troops still over there. Also saying that everything is falling apart since he's been out of office is just silly. Things have been falling apart for at least the last 2 years. Last two weeks have just been following that deterioration, nothings going to change in a matter of weeks.

yeh right

You people just think bush was a bad president because he was made fun of from the media.

Get a brain of your own, and stop listiening to the media.

Are you serious? It is

Are you serious? It is completely possible that Bush was a bad president, and everyone understands this not through the media, but through the reprecussions of his presidency. Such as an unjustified war (Iraq) and a horrible economy. You are a brainwashed conservative who would do anything to be right. Just like Rush Limbaugh stating he "hopes Obama fails"- just so he can say I told you so. What a dick.

That is ridiculous, wheres

That is ridiculous, wheres FDR he is definately top. and woodrow wilson?! come JFK tops him any day. the only i agree with is maybe Andrew Jackson

THEYRE IN THE LIST!!!! FOOL!

Hi, I'm French. Just wanted

Hi,

I'm French. Just wanted to say that Bush, from an international point of view, is far from being considered a great president. He embodies, wrongly or rightly, the worse side of the United States and unfortunately he has stained the image the whole world has had of Americans. We tend to generalize, that's a human thing though we know you guys did not necessarily support the political projects which would inevitably cause the death of thousands of innocents in the name of Good agaisnt Evil and thank God. We had lost ALL our trust in the United States until you proved the whole world you were one of the most dynamic nations when you voted for Barack Obama. Bush did not unilaterally make the decisions.. he was clearly supported by his counselors.. A president has a lot to bear on his shoulders, it would be too easy to accuse only one person for the failure in iraq. The executive power is, i reckon, a poisonous gift and not many presidents (including our own French and detested President Sarkozy) can boast about having performed their duty without any mistakes. Some mistakes, however, have more dramatic consequences than others. I have hope now that Obama, a very clever and talented person, is the head of your nation and of the world.

Go back to France and STAY

Go back to France and STAY there!! And while you are at it, GO F##K YOURSELF!!!

A case against and in favor

A case against and in favor can be made for any president. I think the list is somewhat the status quo. I believe that George H. W. Bush should have made that list. He cleaned up the economic mess that Reagan left (cutting taxes without balancing the budget, thus sky rocketing the national debt three times its size) by increasing taxes yes, which cost him the re-election, but in the long run it was good for the country (the so called Bill Clinton prosperous years were a direct result of H. W.'s economic policies) Took us to war in Kuwait, but with a clear strategy, and careful enough not to engage the US in an endless war and wasteful spending (W. should have take notes). Moreover, he fought in World War 2 as a naval aviator. H.W. Bush has been hugely under rated as a president. And this comes from a liberal who thinks is better when presidents govern from the center.

I hear many people mostly

I hear many people mostly conservatives say that Clinton's prosperous years were a result of Bush's policies. Can anyone who agrees with that back it up?

President Sarah Palin

Sarah Palin will be America's GREATEST President of ALL TIMES! She will defeat Obambi in 2012 for she is GOD's CHOSEN ONE, GOD INCARNATE and the LIVING EMBODIMENT OF GOD HERSELF! She will fulfill her destiny by becoming President because it is GOD's WORD and WILL and GOD HERSELF SAID SO! She will usher in the MOST GOLDEN, GLORIOUS and Prosperous 8 years in American History! She will put all previous male presidents to SHAME for they are ALL HER DICKLESS and BALLESS BITCHES and PUSSIES! After Palin, ONLY WHITE WOMEN can be POTUS and VPOTUS because Women POTUS are SUPERIOR to men POTUS! Women are the SUPERIOR SEX because men are truly DICKLESS and BALLESS!

Though I STRONGLY agree that

Though I STRONGLY agree that Sarah Palin will make an EXCELLENT President, I think you need to back off on the Millitant Feminist attitude. Perhaps you need a good man to help you locate your clitoris?

WOW

l agree with one of the first george washington parts, he's not one of the greatest he is overrated. Learn your history.
YOU DON'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT POLITICS IF YOU SAY OBAMA HASN'T DONE ANYTHING.
He wasn't born yesterday to become president now. He's been in government making changes wherever he was. Now he's just in a higher level and will make even bigger improvements!
*And it's not a trickle down proposal he's making it's more of a trickle up.

You are right, Obama has

You are right, Obama has made things WORSE. This "Stimulus Bill" Has nearly KILLED the Stock Market, and now OUR Tax Dollars are going to fund abotions all over the world. The Government is NOT supposed to have it's hands in the everyday lives of people OR business. This is supposed to be a FREE country and you blissfully unaware DUMB SHITS are just fine with turning us into a socailist, communist country. Get a clue STUPID!!!

Can you stop talking in your

Can you stop talking in your theatrical caps in every sentence of all your posts like you have your balls stuck in a vice. Take a deep breath and calm yourself.

Well, maybe you LIKE having

Well, maybe you LIKE having YOUR tax dollars go to fund abotions all over the world, but, I DON'T. If this is the way you feel , then, perhaps YOUR mother should have had one?

What do you mean in the

What do you mean in the first part of your post.

Anything good to come with Obama?

I was sitting and watching the carnival they had for Obama, a little over the top if I might add. That poem recited by that troll was very displeasing with "white finally made it right" or whatever. Fuck that can we please get passed the white and black shit. Anyway I liked McCain, even though I didn't really like either one of them I voted for McCain, but I was a exciting thing to see yesterday. I felt a new energy that hasn't been for the last 8 years, but I'm still concerned about Obama and his new policies. His speak was very well thought out, nothing extraordinary, but seemed to be on top of everything. The thing I am most pleased with is that he seems to be down to business which is good because I think that is his personality and he needs to stick with that if he wants to be successful. Today Biden, who is a jackass, made a comment like "I have a bad memory just like Justice Roberts," and Obama like pissed off. I liked that, to see him not be all about games and fun is something I'm excited to see. I'm still very optimistic that he will lead us out of this time of crisis but I just wanted to see what people thought about his "down to work" attitude.

I voted for and am happy

I voted for and am happy with Obama. It's nice to see someone that is open minded and logically observe a situation without their idealogies obstructing what is really going on. Thanks

You really need to pull off

You really need to pull off that blindfold. Obama is only working for Obama. In fact, it would seem that ALL in government have absolutly NO idea what we the people want. Nor do they seem to give a rat's ass. Government of the people is supposed to be by the people and FOR THE PEOPLE!! These days it is Government to the people by me and for what I want and F##k the people.

I agree obviously we have

I agree obviously we have reached a new racial standard and we need to put that all behind us

Off a little bit

Top Three
1) Abe Lincoln
He held the country together as it was dissolving. His strong stance towards national unity and human rights makes him #1.
2) Teddy Roosevelt
He help conserve nature and ended the guilded age. He started the Panama Canal. Won a Nobel Peace Prize (the first American to do so) by helping put an end to the Russo-Japanese War.
3) Dwight D. Eisenhower
He is the only five-star General to become President of the United States. His administration initiated the nation's first civil rights legislation since the Civil War. Influence a cease fire to the Korean War. Operation Wetback (no joke, it is real) to fight illegal immigration. He promoted the Federal Aid Highway Act.

Three Most Overrated
1) JFK
He didn't do anything that grand, yet he is praised like a messiah. His daddy (and the mob) got him into the White House. All he had was charisma and good looks, which is good for being an entertainer, but not being the president.
2) FDR
His policies extended the depression. If it wasn't for Pearl Harbor which led America entering the war, the depression would have lasted many more years.
3a) Andrew Jackson
His greatness occurred before he became president. He got credit for eliminating the national debt when in reality it was planned in advance and began during Monroe's term.
3b) George Washington
Like Jackson, his greatness occurred before he became president.
There was nothing during his time as President that made him an amazing President.
3c) Thomas Jefferson
Like Jackson and Washington, his greatness occurred before he became president. He was a great scholar and a great revolutionary, but an average president.

Is George Washingtong the

Is George Washingtong the first president of the United States?
You probably would answer yes, but did you ever hear of a man named John Hanson? He was really the first president of our nation.

In 1781, when the Continental Congress met to plan the shape of the new nation and adopt constitution, the Congress elected Hanson as the "President of the United States in Congress Assembled." But Hanson had none of the powers of the presidency as we know it.

Hanson served only one year, and was followed by six other men as
"President." The seventh, George Washington, became the first constitutionally elected president in 1789.

All I really remember about

All I really remember about John Hanson is that he was against the Constitution. But if you want to get really technical, some historians consider Peyton Randolph the first president since he was elected president of the continental congress. As chief executive officer of the united states, the position of president of the continental congress was considered head of state. Thus, John Hanson is considered as 8th president and Washington 15th. Be that as it may, Washington is always regarded as the first authentic President of the United States.

Nothing during George

Nothing during George Washington's time as president made him a amazing president? Are you joking? Seriously. How about creating the foundation of a whole new form of government that has lasted over two centuries. Kept the new nation together through it's earliest days. Begin a age of economic growth when finalizing the Jay Treaty. Had no precedents to follow, had to set them all. Had no guidelines to follow like all the presidents after him, he created the guidelines. Last but certainly not least, he urged congress in his first inaugural address to propose amendments that offered rights for freemen - these became the Bill of Rights. No clue how you can put George Washington as top 3 most overrated. Your out of your mind.

Washington

Washington IS over rated.....y u ask?

1) He did not even WANT presidency he was forced into it
2) He was NOT the idea man behind the revolution constitution ect...
3) He was a general, a good one at that but no a president of note

** He SHOULD however be remembered as a great man and revolution supported.

Why do people overlook Obama?

Obviously, the best president ever is Barack Obama. He is bringing the US back from the brink of the Second Great Depression and is repairing all the damage caused by Bush. Additionally, he is ensuring that the college educated will generously take care of the poor, and that the government will quickly solve any trouble such as home foreclosures or auto manufacturer bankruptcies.Of course, he is challenging the concept of fiscal responsibility, but that is a minor quibble.

A distant second through seventh include Lincoln, Washington, T. Roosevelt, Jackson, Jefferson and Polk though not necessarily in that order. As tempting as it would be to include FDR, he didn't really solve the great depression as much as tried to lead us through it. He also left us with the under-funded social security (Obama will solve it getting FDR off the hook) which kind of leads into medicare (not sure even Obama will completely solve that one). Reagan didn't so much end the cold war as happened to be the president when Russia collapsed mostly on its own accord. He also dramatically increased the federal deficit.

OBAMA??? wtf

what the hell are you talking about? Obama? Obama is the worst thing to ever happen to this great country. Do you not realize that Obama is going to destroy this great democracy and turn the whole country into a bunch of athiest Communist. Welfare, affermitave action, reverse discrimination, sending every kid to college? its a bunch of bull shit that is going to turn the greatest country on earth into a communist waste land. It was Regan who saved America from the Hippi 60's and 70's and you better hope that Palin and Rommney can save us from Obama. We're talking about a president who wants to get rid of my God and my guns. Well if he wants to outlaw God and guns then he is gunna have to outlaw me and every true American first.

You have pretty much just

You have pretty much just defined how the rest of the world views the steriotypical american. Gun-slinging, anti-hippy, and in some sense possibly racist. Nice Job! Embarrass yourself futher, please...

You lost all credibility

You lost all credibility when you mentioned Palin and saving the country in the same sentence.
